The Art of Makeup Advisory Board

The Art of Makeup is a state licensed professional Career School under the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission, responsible for making sure all career schools in Oregon follow strict regulations keeping their education standards of the highest quality for students and for the higher good!  Students can count on The Art of Makeup to deliver outstanding education, while keeping a strict eye on progress through visual and written critiques, so that instructors can make sure students have learned what they need to know, insuring success and confidence in the work world.

One of the ways we make sure our education is top notch and current in this fast paced world we live in with constant changing technology, tools and supplies, is through our ADVISORY BOARD. Our Advisory Board reviews our current curriculum and time allowed for each subject, current tools and supplies, methods of critique and the space the classes are offered in, and gives helpful suggestions if needed.  Now we don’t seek advice from just anyone!  The current Advisory Board consists of makeup artists at the top of their industry.  Here are two of the members of our Advisory Board and some of the accomplishments they have achieved:

Will Huff, Award Winning Makeup Artist and Roboticist……. Photo by Vern Uyetake for Pamplin Media Group

Although Emmy Award and Makeup Artist & Hair Stylist Guild winner Will Huff technically lives in Portland, he spends most of his time on major Hollywood big budget box office hits shooting across the country and across the globe.  His last big film that came out was Avengers: Infinity War and the next one that is about to be released is Avengers: Endgame.  He wasn’t just any one of the makeup artists, he was Zoe Saldana’s makeup artist, the female lead in Avengers and also Avatar.  He also worked on Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, Thor, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Planet of the Apes, Van Helsing, Oceans Eleven (& Thirteen), Austin Powers, and so many more great films with outstanding and award nominated makeup. In fact, he was on location in Atlanta working on Avengers: Endgame, when he reviewed our school offerings by email.  He was very pleased with our programs! From someone with his experience, that’s a compliment we can be proud of.

Our next Advisory Board member has a whole different set of skills, experience, and accomplishments that we thought would be a good complement to seek any words of wisdom that she may offer us.

Sara Beukers, Theatre, Film & Stills: Makeup, Hairstyling & Wigs

Sara Beukers is currently the head of the wig and makeup departments for Oregon Ballet Theater, Portland Opera and Mark Morris Dance Group. She is the reason our students are able to do makeup for The Nutcracker each year, and various other productions including Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland.  When Broadway shows come to town, such as Lion King, Sara often works on them. Sara‘s work is not limited to theatre productions. She has also been on the hair and/or makeup crew for many commercials, photo shoots, video shoots, TV, and film productions that have shot here in Portland, including Grimm and Leverage.  Sara also complimented us on our comprehensive programs and the space we offer them in, and mentioned products she likes as well as things she wished she would have learned in makeup school.

Because we are a small, boutique and unique Makeup Artistry school, we can easily implement changes in updating curriculum and supplies, which we often do.  Portland may be a small town, but that doesn’t mean we don’t bring the big city to our school.  With big name advice and big name artists that fly in to teach our programs, we are continually excited to be the Pacific Northwest’s premier school for professional makeup artistry in all areas that makeup artistry can be defined!
