Once again, The Art of Makeup School is excited to fly in top of the industry special effects guest makeup artists to teach our unique Character & Special FX Makeup Makeup Program!  In just 7 weeks we cover the essentials of in depth character and special effects transformation like no other school. Our small class size allows time for careful observation and instruction for students to learn quickly and work on productions sooner.

Here are the instructors we have lined up for our upcoming June 14-July 31, 2021 session!

To start off the program with the fundamentals of makeup artistry, theatrical makeup, and hair ventilation, will be theatre veteran Diane Trapp.  Diane has been doing Hair and Makeup for professional theatre productions since 1972. She is a proud member of the IATSE local 28, and for 19 years has been part of their Wardrobe, Hair and Makeup Department. She has worked for several theatre companies as the Makeup and Hair Designer for Musical Theater Co., Eugene Opera, New Rose Theatre, Oregon Ballet Theatre, and Columbia Dance, just to name a few. Currently, her main focus is in education with over 30 years experience as Portland Community College’s Stage Makeup instructor for their theatre arts program. She designed many shows for them including: Amadeus, Little Shop of Horrors, Hairspray, and Usagi Yojimbo. She also works on touring Broadway shows that come into town, most recently Aladdin at the Keller Auditorium.

Next up we look forward to the return of internationally known Face Off celebrity makeup artist, Rachael Wagner. Rachael competed in Syfy’s Face Off Season 7: Life and Death, and after becoming a fan favorite she got invited back to compete for a second time on Season 11, All Stars. She was trained at New York’s Makeup Designory  where she discovered her natural skill and passion for prosthetic makeup. She was a finalist in multiple IMATS Battle of the Brushes SFX competitions, and has worked with many diverse clientele including: Fall Out Boy, Hyundai, National Geographic, SyFy, Nerdist Industries, MGMT, The Metropolitan Opera, Girl Scouts of America, Disney, Target, and Universal Studios. As Project Supervisor of Global Effects Inc. she had the pleasure of working with ANOVOS and their Star Wars License, Agents of SHIELD, Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies, Castle, Doctor Who, Orbital Outfitters, and Solar City to name a few. She also enjoyed a tenure at Xiao Jin FX located in Beijing, China where she taught FX, Sculpting, and Shop Class for four months. Rachael also created creature suits and fake body parts for the movie Annabelle.

And finally, The Art of Makeup is thrilled to welcome internationally known and best selling author and makeup and special effects artist, Todd Debreceni of Special Makeup Effects for Stage and Screen: Making and Applying Prosthetics. Todd will be teaching the Prosthetic Design, Fabrication & Application portion of our Character & Special Effects program. Todd has worked and been an educator in film, television, and theatre makeup all over the world for more than 30 years, and his background in orthopedics and reconstructive plastic surgery have made his transition into prosthetic makeup creation a natural evolution.

Todd specializes in the art of designing, sculpting, and applying prosthetics. He continues to teach college courses in cinematography, acting, sculpture, makeup design and visual effects in Denver, CO, which he has done for almost 20 years, between film projects, theater productions, and prosthetic design orders that he creates in his special effects lab, Back Porch FX.
