One year ago, MAC Cosmetics extended a special invitation to Make-Up Artist Magazine Pro Card holders to see Cirque du Soleil’s performance of Kurios! Cirque du Soleil reserved close-up seats for us, and invited us to meet the show’s makeup designer, Eleni Uranis. As expected, the show was spectacular, and the makeup was beyond imagination. Getting to meet the designer was an absolute thrill! I figured I had nothing to lose, so I asked her if she was interested in teaching a workshop at my school. She told me it was never done before, and she would have to ask permission from the director of Cirque du Soleil. Exactly one year later she flew straight from Montreal to Portland to teach our Cirque du Soleil Master Class!

The Art of Makeup School is the first school to have offered a Cirque du Soleil workshop and it went magnificently! To meet such a talented artist such as Eleni Uranis is such an honor, but to be given the rare opportunity to learn the secrets behind her makeup designs is just indescribable! It was so exciting to learn step by step how the magical looks of Cirque du Soleil makeup from both Kurios and Volta were created! If you think they look complicated, they were even harder than you think. Eleni is such an excellent teacher though, everyone was able to achieve all the looks.

I can’t thank Eleni enough for traveling all the way from Montreal and back just to teach our workshop. It was beyond wonderful. I am also so grateful to Cirque du Soleil for giving her permission to teach this class, and of course MAC Cosmetics who is the reason I first met Eleni. MAC also partnered with us by generously gifting our students with 5 of Eleni’s favorite MAC products she uses on Cirque shows. It was an unforgettable weekend, and we hope next year to do it again!
