    Sarah Rubano

Sarah was no ordinary student of mine. Every student has their own special qualities, but Sarah Rubano is pretty darn extra special and it was such an honor to have her in my classes. Not only was Sarah the Head of the Hair and Makeup Department on the recent block buster film Chappie, but she was Senior Prosthetic Makeup Artist on The Hobbit, she worked on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (she laid the body hair for Mr. Tumnus) & Prince Caspian, The Amazing Spiderman 2 (she did the Green Goblin), District 9, Prosthetic Supervisor on Elysium, and many, many more films.

She certainly wasn’t coming to Art of Makeup to learn FX makeup. In fact while she was taking classes, she taught us how to make latex brow covers in just a few minutes. She is such an expert at FX makeup, that she is rarely given the opportunity to focus on beauty makeup. That’s where I came in. She was happy to spend 3 weeks submerged in just beauty makeup! Being the natural talent that she is, beauty, fashion and decade makeup was not a problem for her either. The best part of it for me was getting to spend time with Sarah.

Making it in this business relies on talent and skill, but it’s certainly not the only thing that matters. Having a wonderful personality that people want to be around is just as important, and Sarah Rubano is fantastic!
